Scott Dunnicliffe and Andy Fitchett Celebrating 20 years of service

7th November 2024

This week, Mackworth Vehicle Conversion Specialists proudly celebrated the 20-year anniversary of two remarkable employees, Scott Dunnicliffe and Andy Fitchett. Both joined the team on the same day back in 2004, when the business was still called Lex Commercials. From humble beginnings to respected roles in our business, Scott and Andy have both contributed immensely to our success and growth.

Humble beginnings

Their first day wasn’t exactly glamorous. Scott and Andy’s initial task was to empty scrap metal from the back of the guillotine, a start that might have made them wonder what they’d signed up for! Both began as welder fabricators, tasked with working primarily 3-way tippers, a substantial project for Derby County Council.

In the early days, then known as Mackworth Bodyworks, the business secured a notable contract to produce 32 Iveco flatbed container vehicles for the Ministry of Defence. Scott and Andy played a vital role in building Mackworth’s reputation for quality and reliability, setting a standard that endures today.

From welder fabricator to workshop manager

Scott’s career journey at Mackworth has been one of growth and development. In 2008, he stepped up to the role of Team Leader, a position that allowed him to showcase his leadership potential. By 2018, as Mackworth expanded and created a dedicated workshop for new van conversions, Scott was promoted to Workshop Manager for both the LCV and HGV workshops. His commitment to personal growth saw him complete the Motus Management Development Programme (MDP) in 2022-2023, enhancing his management skills and preparing him for future challenges.

The workshop’s joker and “best steel welder”

Before joining Mackworth, Andy worked with Ryder System Care and, early on, proudly proclaimed himself “the best steel welder in the business.” The title sparked good-natured ribbing from his colleagues, a sign of the camaraderie that has characterised his years here. Andy quickly became known as the workshop’s joker, always ready with a laugh and a caricature sketch. As the unofficial “court jester” of former Workshop Manager Bob Summerfield, Andy’s humour has brought a unique spirit to the team.

Loyalty through change

Through the years, Scott and Andy have witnessed significant changes in the business and remained committed to Mackworth’s vision. Their loyalty, hard work, and unwavering dedication make them valued members of the Mackworth family, and we are proud to celebrate their 20-year milestone.

Please join us in thanking Scott and Andy for their dedication to Mackworth Vehicle Conversion Specialists. Cheers to 20 years and counting!
